Firefox 3.6 has some cool consumer facing features like Personas and a better Plug-in Updater, but developers have a lot to be excited about too.  Developers will appreciate the increased stability, especially the work done to prevent crashes with third party software.  There are also enhancements like improved JavaScript performance and optimizations to speed up everyday Web tasks to make web applications snappier.  However, what developers will be most interested in are all the new features around CSS3 and HTML5 that bring the future of the Web to Firefox 3.6 today. 

This is an exciting release because we have built on the progress we made with Firefox 3.5 just a few months ago and have implemented even more cutting-edge features that will make the Web experience more engaging and interactive than ever before.

    The File API is the most important along with the Theora update.

    Hopefully the next version will catch up with Google Chrome’s speed (JS and Rendering by applying Direct 2D) and everything will be perfect.

      Opera has had working support of HTML5 and CSS3 since before Firefox. In fact, Opera pioneered the use of tabbed browsing and many other features used by Firefox and IE. IMHO, Firefox is bloatware.

    It has become very difficult to run twitter on Firefox. Scripts like ajax/googleapis slowing down, firefox not responding and then crashing. I am now using chrome for twitter. But firefox is my favourite and default browser.

    There’s a serious lag in the plugin updater – a week after Adobe had released Flash 10.42, it was still telling me that 10.32 was the latest version!

    The fundamental change to the position of newly opened tabs is annoying, and there doesn’t seem to be an option to switch back to the old behaviour.

    And what happened to the Windows 7 integration? It disappeared late last year, and there doesn’t seem to be any plan to bring it back. Obviously making your browser look like fluffy kittens is more important than making it integrate with the native operating system.

    Actually I was on 3.5.7 and it crashes like crazy so I upgraded to 3.6 which didn’t seem to fix it.

    I don’t know whether this upgrade worth congratulated for.

    One bug: like Google Chrome, and unlike all other builds of both Firefox and IE, when you “drag and drop” with Firefox 3.6, the “drop” fails. I’m thinking specifically of the layout section on Blogger. I have to use IE for this purpose. I hope this gets fixed soon.

    Flash stopped working the second I upgraded to v3.6 of mozilla. Every attempt to install flash results in a failure. I go to any video link in flash now on facebook and it says “Flash Player upgrade required. You must download and install the latest version of the Adobe Flash Player to view this content.”

    I’ve downloaded and installed it on the order of 5 times now. The flash install page shows it as working, and when I go to any other website, poof, no video, “you must install the latest version of Flash”.

    There’s not been much about this on google, nor here.

    I installed Firefox 3.6 a couple of days ago. Yesterday, I tried to get on and had nothing but problems. About the only site I can actually go to is Mozilla, and that hasn’t been helpful. Internet Explorer won’t do any more than Firefox. I tried uninstalling 3.6 and going back to an earlier version, but that didn’t help, either. My McAfee suite says I’m not protected, and I can’t do anything about that, ’cause I can’t go to websites. At this point, I’m frustrated and angry. I hate Firefox! Hmmmm…saying it doesn’t make me feel better. Is there a relatively simple fix, or will I have to pay an expert?

I still love it, especially compared to IE, and I understand that software engineers, like any kind of engineers, are fuzzy on the concepts of end-users and operational efficiency BUT where are the guys at Mozilla who launched the early, great versions of this browser? Did Microsoft assassinate them or somehow infiltrate Mozilla? And how do you get back to 2.0?     My cripes: slow as hell, constantly have to refresh to get it to load properly,
    it can’t load more than a single page at a time (if you try you get the “can’t find” screen), it can’t handle complex pages that are trying to load multiple files (many of them ads, which more and more sites are incorporating) and it freezes, sometimes forcing me to hit the back button, sometimes forcing me to exit the screen altogether.

    So will you guys at Mozilla please get back to designing FireFox for the end-user and forget about all that loopy crap your software engineers are coming up with.

    I am running Firefox 3.6.7 and I too am having ongoing problems with Flash Player. Every time I start Firefox it is telling me that I must update to the latest version of Flash Player but every time I try to do that it fails. I get a top bar message which says, in effect, you need a plugin (not mentioned) to view the content on this page but the install button does not work.

    Adobe/Flash website help is of little or no use as it takes you right round in a loop to exactly the same page with the same result. Very Frustrating – I am thinking of giving up on Firefox if this continues.

Have done a complete clean of my system and have reinstalled Mozilla and the flash player with absolutely no luck.
    Getting very frustrated with FF and Windows 7. Come-on guys., Stop dropping new crap on to the market with testing it first, What are you going through cutback and don’t have enough people to beta test these programs.

    If anyone comes up with a solution to this problem, drop me a line. I would appreciate it. (before my new computer becomes a boat anchor)

    In my case, we build customized xulrunner ( of 1.9.2.10 ) and it is used as a native browser in our application we see random crash as well. Launching browser to a flash site seems to be fine, but as soon as you click on those objects, cpu is packed for several seconds and UI stops responding…

    Thank God! A place I can air my FF grievances. Ever since i installed the latest update–3.6.12–websites are displaying all weird…?? It crosses out tabs on my Yahoo mail page, and simply doesn’t show all the graphics on others. I know it’s Mozilla, because, on Internet Explorer, these sights display normally. Have tried numerous ‘system restores,’ and other program updates, which’ve just been a huge waste of time. Has anyone had the same problem, and been able to fix it? THANKS!

And, the only way to get my main issue heard is through snail-mail, as, I’ve gotten absolutely NO Help from their so-called support site. I’ve asked questions a dozen differenct ways, & all I get is there is no response to them.

    I appreciate that I can air my frustrations on mozilla hacks, but do those working for Mozilla ever get our grievances–which seem like MANY?!?!

    I’m running into computer hang problems over and over again. I am running MS Windows 7 and Firefox 3.6.13 The computer seems to hang and the browser (not responding) when running a YouTube flash movie. The hang happens if the computer is left unattended for an hour or so. The computer is running Windows 7 and it hangs so bad that only a forced restart will fix it. Could this be a FF/Flash memory leak? Is there any thing I can do to help the FF community of developers analyze the problem?

    I have been having a lot of issues with FF 3.6.13 for awhile now. It is slow….does not respond and today it crashed again. I think awhile ago today I say an update for it but I`m not sure I want FF anymore.It is really getting slow !! What is up with this? I can play on Pogo fine but when it comes to FB it is giving me a lot of problems .
